Introduction, Kobus Kruger Photography.

I have been putting this off for a while, but everywhere I keep getting reminders of the importance of blogging. So here we go...

My name is Kobus, among other things I am also a photographer. That said, I am a little camera shy though, it takes serious convincing for me to appear in front of the lens (When I do, I normally have to make at least six or seven attempts at the "selfie" thing). Hence there is not an abundance of mugshots of me out there. I will make an exception for you though...

I have thought of making some video clips too, but my heart still pounds wildly at the idea... give it a few more days.

I had a fairly big surgery little over 2 years ago and in the time I was recovering I spent a lot of time on my photography exclusively. Analyzing, strategising where to go with it etc.

In this time I built a bit of a product photo portfolio and got to work on a music video with my ultra creative brother. This also led me into the very satisfying field of time lapse photography as well as some night time skies among others.
Studio product photography.

I acquired some studio lighting equipment, camera flashes & remote triggers and a host of other gadgets. For a while I was exploring all that these bits and bobs enabled me to do, and came up with some really cool images. But soon enough I felt that nagging feeling again, as yet unidentified.

Some more analyzing led to me eventually figuring it out. There had not been people in my images for a good long while by then (I used to cover a lot of extreme sport activities such as downhill racing
in several disciplines & multi sports events etc). The sports thing was not conducive for turning into a business easily though.

Further analysis led me to zone in on people photography genres with better business potential (or that was how it appeared anyway). Portraits, family photos & the big one, wedding photography. This excited me enough to realize that its worth pursuing, and without delay I threw everything at it.

Over the following months I set up several photo sessions, attended a wedding photography workshop with the amazing Nelis Engelbrecht and even managed to bag some weddings and engagement sessions, family sessions and so on. All in the name of learning the ropes and trade.

Meanwhile, not long after we completed the music video project, Johann invited me along to a meeting with Beth, author of "HERMANUS". The book was about 8 years "old" and needed an update. Beth had seen some of Johann's black & white photography and decided she wanted to work with him, which became us.

Most of our work over the past two years basically went into a vault for the new publication, "HERMANUS, whales, wine, fynbos, art". Its due on the shelves August 2017. The fortunate by product of this expedition is all the people we met along the way and opportunities we uncovered.

Now that this project is finally wrapped up it is time to focus on the people & wedding photography business I initially set out to establish. It is proving to be a much more complex mission than initially anticipated. Fortunately I am a determined, tough individual. I will keep on keeping on until its a success.

With your help it will just be that much easier though, yes even if you are reading this in a far off land, be it in Europe, the USA, Aussie or a remote island... one of your friends knows someone who knows someone else who knows someone else yet again that could use my services. The world is not that big a place, but it can be lonely if we don't help each other out.

Please share this with your friends and bookmark it so you can read more about my journey. Better even, check out my website too (visitors make Google happy) and sign up for my news updates, that way you don't have to go looking but rather get it in your inbox. Feel free to comment, write back with advice and suggestions, tell me what you like and not. I would like nothing more...

Here is my website.

Finally, please share this as far as you can. I look forward to hearing from you.

Till next time, be safe.
